Traditionally, Dance Shawls have long fringe on all four sides or three sides - leaving the top not fringed. Our dance shawl is three sided with 18" long fringe which has been crochet linked to the main body. The fringe is in the same color as the featured design.
This Dance Shawl is offered in Two Different Yarn Constructions which result in two different Depths to meet the different sizing needs of the recipient. Read the descriptions below, then make your selection under OPTIONS Below.:
JACQUARD STITCH CONSTRUCTION
The knit fabric is constructed with a 'slip stitch' on the back side to give non stretch stability to the dance shawl and a jacquard slip stitch on the front side to give the vividness of the design. Laying 'flat', this fabric measures 38" in depth and approximately 60" length (hand to hand) dependant upon the motif and yarn fiber. The 38" depth does not include the 18î length fringe. This jacquard stitch construction fabric is identical to our 2 color Native American Blankets, which are often worn as Robes without the fringe.
Customers who would prefer a 'shorter in depth dance shawl' with less stretch, and the entire design being visual on the back, should select this stitch construction. It is the Most Common Choice in Stitch Construction
TUCK/JACQUARD STITCH CONSTRUCTION
The knit fabric is constructed with a 'tuck loop stitch' on the back side to give drape and greater stretch / depth to the dance shawl and a jacquard slip stitch on the front side to give the vividness of the design. Laying 'flat', this fabric measures 58" in depth and 64" length (hand to hand). The 58" depth does not include the 18î length fringe. This drapery tuck / jacquard fabric weighs about 2 lbs and will sway to accent the Dancer. Since the depth is much deeper due to the stretch of the fiber, part of the design is draped over the shoulders to the front. The entire design would NOT be all visual on the back side.
SELECT YARN FIBER: ACRYLC OR MERINO WOOL
Our Acrylic yarn is high quality turbo acrylic. We offer acrylic to give an economical choice. Acrylic Versions weigh approximately 1.5 lbs . For those customers that prefer natural fibers: Merino Wool is a natural fiber and a denser Fiber resulting in a heavier weight of approximately 2 to 2.5 lbs. Merino is the highest grade of wool with longer fibers and is soft and silky, Not the itchy wool with the short fibers.
Both fibers are very nice and drapey and definitely result in an Elegant, Heirloom, handloomed Knit Dance Shawl. So the choice is yours according to your fiber preferences. Make sure to look at the color chart for the Fiber you choose: Acrylic or Merino Wool.
Fabric Care: All dance shawls should be hand washed, gently, ~ holding the weight so as not to stretch the fabric so that the fringe does not get tangled in any spinning action. You can use a wide toothed comb to separate and comb your fringe. If you do hand wash, dry by: reshape to the laying flat measurements given above and let dry thoroughly before moving. Again, even though acrylic can be machine washed - spinning action in washing or drying will tangle your fringe. If you have a special setting on your washer or dryer to eliminate the spin cycles, you can machine wash/dry the acrylic dance shawls. Merino Wool should be hand washed / lay flat to dry or dry cleaned.
