This pair of socks is One of a Kind. It has been handloomed on an antique sock machine which dates back to the late 1800's.
It is hard to see from the photograph, but the instructional knitting pattern that was followed was the original "Work Sock" that was knit for "Bundles for Britain" for our soldiers during World War II. The fiber is different though.
The material is Bonnie Triolas Double Spiral "A superb and unique cotton blend - 65% cotton 35% acrylic

The Leg starts with a cuff of 1 x 1 ribbing for 5 ". The first 2" are knit with lycra to give a good fit that will stay up. Then the stitch structure converts to 5" of 3 x 1 rib for a total of a 10 inch height for the leg. At that point the heel is shaped and knit in stockinet stitch. The next part that is knit is the foot. The upper foot remains in the 3 x 1 rib structure - just like the original 'Work Socks". The lower half of the foot is knit in stockinet for a smooth comfortable feel. Finally, the toe is shaped and is hand grafted together. From heel to toe the foot measures 11.5" which was the standard measurement desired for a mans size Large.
This becomes a great, seamless, comfortable sock which can be worn with pride. Knowing the historical significance of this sock pattern and the antique sock machine on which it was knit gives added pleasure to the recipient of such a gift.
