Native American Reproduction Designed and Handloomed by Sharon Nani ~ a Non Native and owner of The Knit Tree
This Blanket is designed to honor the Salmon of the Pacific Northwest Coast. It is known as 'the provider of life'. Many of the Native American Nations of the Pacific Northwest rely on their salmon fishing to provide food and income. The salmon is also important to Native American Culture and many legends on How the Salmon came to the People are told.
This blanket is also offered in Superfine Merino Wool for those that prefer the fine qualities of Natural Fibers. It is handloomed with 2 fine strands of the merino wool in each color or in high quality acrylic yarn for those who desire an economical blanket with easy wash and wear care. The Salmon Design has different characteristics dependant upon the region. These are harder to depict in a knitwear design where the sutle curves and definite lines must fit in smaller spaces with rectangular shaped knit stitches. Common features which are shown are the black or brown formline with the dorsal, adipose, pectoral, and anal fins. Inner designs are composed of ovoids with crescents in head and tail, split U in fins, S shapes and quadron for ribs and spine.
We appreciate the feedback and special requests from our customers. Some people like to use their blanket as a decoration placed over a chair or couch, hang on the wall, or wear for special Native American Events as a robe blanket. These special handloomed Indian blankets can serve all those functions.
